Our national motto of "Pura Vida!"; fresh food with unique, delicious and abundant recipes; delicious tropical fruits; different types of good weather with a short distance to enjoy, friendly people and outdoor adventures are some of the reasons why Costa Rica is a popular vacation destination with international renown. This nation is about the same size as West Virginia in the United States. A great little country that contains 4 percent of the Earth's biodiversity, it is one of the most biologically diverse countries in the world per square meter. Scientists have estimated that about 4 percent of the species on Planet Earth live in Costa Rica; rainforests and cloud forests (there's a difference), sunny beaches, mountains, volcanoes, hot springs, waterfalls, and rivers, as well as all the action you'd expect to find in these terrains.

Costa Rica is one of the most biodiverse and naturally beautiful places on planet Earth. It has more than 500,000 species of fauna, covering the mountains and the coasts. Including more than 1400 species of orchid flowers and strangler ficus or fig trees. Costa Rica offers outdoor adventure, relaxation on the beaches, finding animals in their natural habitats, great culture of its own to discover and learn from, help and support from locals and visitors to countless sustainable projects and local family businesses. When you visit Costa Rica, you will not only have an amazing time, but you can really feel good about where your travel dollars are going. Because this great little country offers a bit of everything, even the most discriminating travelers will find something to suit their tastes, making this a truly unique destination.

A paradise in the tropics. Virgin beaches, emerald forests and birds in almost every color of the rainbow with incredible songs, splash and sing with the landscape in all four directions. The vibrant color and flavor of freshness extends to your plate when you delight in the nation's tropical fruits and traditional foods steeped in the history of our ancestors. The best part? People are friendly in this family-oriented country; there are no military, giving the national motto of "Pura Vida!" or "Pure Life" a double meaning.

The beaches are absolutely stunning with golden sand, white sand, even crispy sand made from seashells. A country embraced by the undulating waves of the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean. Why do the beaches remain so beautiful? Costa Rica has high levels of protection. The 200-meter maritime zoning law has prevented the construction of large hotels facing the sea so that everyone can enjoy the natural beauty of the coasts.

Tropical jungles, rain forests and cloud forests. We've all imagined virgin rainforest in the tropics, but if you've never been to a cloud forest, you're in for a very special treat. Less than 2.5 percent of the world's tropical forests are cloud forests, making them rare and eye-catching, shrouded in perpetual mist with hidden mystery and beauty. The forests of Costa Rica are some of the most biodiverse places on planet Earth, including orchids, countless insects, birds, and even land and sea mammals.

Sustainability. From ecolodges to reforestation, communities and families making a difference to support nature; The entire nation of Costa Rica is incredibly green. In fact, Costa Rica is so green that it is on its way to becoming the first carbon neutral country in the world; already, more than 99 percent of its electricity is generated by renewable energy (geothermal, hydroelectric, wind, solar and biomass). 30 percent of the land is under unbreakable conservation measures and laws, and your money from your travels directly supports these efforts. Even the activities offer visitors the opportunity to enjoy practical activities that respect the environment, such as planting trees or helping species of different animals for their protection and reproduction.

In Costa Rica, your vacation will be anything but boring. One minute you're walking through the forest canopy on a suspension bridge, the next you're ziplining across it or bungee jumping. White water rafting down beautiful river rapids, sea kayaking, surfing, snorkeling and scuba diving are just a few of the adventures that await you. Do you prefer to stay dry? How about exploring the local area on a catamaran or whale watching tour? Walking near a volcano, enjoying the sunrise from the treetops, or the sunset on top of a mountain with a three-hundred-and-sixty-degree view, early morning bird watching to spot rare endemic species, and exploring the forest by the night.
